When Civil War announced its initial cast list as a veritable Who’s Who of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seemed like there weren’t many more characters the movie could add—and then it added Spider-Man for good measure. But it turns out that somehow, there’s yet another MCU character the movie can add, in the form of Gwyneth Paltrow.

This morning we learned that Martin Freeman will play comics character Everett Ross. And now we’ve learned that Paltrow will reprise her role as CEO of Stark Industries Pepper Potts.

According to the Russo brothers, Paltrow was included during reshoots for the movie, so it seems like Pepper’s role will be minor at best. But considering it’s been a while since we’ve seen her—and Paltrow’s Marvel contract had actually expired after Iron Man 3—it’s nice to have her back, no matter how briefly. Just don’t expect her to suit up and join team Iron Man.

I’m glad they included her. I feel like the individual movies did well to establish her and Jane) as both kick-ass and important players in the universe, an I don’t understand why they’re almost completely sidelined in the team-up movies. Their presence should also provide better emotional grounding for the heroes, which Avengers 2 had some issues with.
