Considering how long it’s been in limbo—and how many times its seemingly been brought back from the brink of collapsing altogether—it’s hard to forget sometimes that the solo Gambit movie is still happening. Today, it took the first teeny steps forwards by... well, attaching someone other than Channing Tatum to the project.

Variety reports that Masters of Sex’s Lizzy Caplan is currently in talks to join Gambit in the lead female role. Unfortunately, no details about just what that role is have been disclosed yet, but past rumors seemingly indicated that Bella Donna Boudreaux, the mutant leader of the Guild of Assassins that rivalled Remy’s Thieves Guild in New Orleans, will be the lead female role and love interest in the film.

We still know so little about Gambit other than its almost unending delays and reworks and director swaps that any sign there’s still life in the X-Men spinoff is a good thing. Caplan’s arrival in the film may not quite be official yet, but it’s nice to potentially add someone else to this film’s roster than the incredibly patient Tatum.

Gambit expected to release in February 2019. Maybe. Maaaaybe.

I was hoping this was about casting someone other than Channing Tatum as Gambit.

He’s only good in roles where he plays a dum-dum.
