You've seen a glimpse of them in action, but Toho has put the bird-themed superhero outfits of the live-action Gatchaman movie's new team outside the 109 Men's department store in Shibuya, and my god, are they fantastic.
They're updated without being overdesigned; they're clearly indebted to the originals without being beholden to them; they're not worried about being too realistic (clearly); and most of all, they just look great. I can't even complain about the lack of the bird beaks on the helmets because the riot face-shield makes so much sense (although I fully admit I wouldn't mind if the beaks were in addition to the shield). Here's some more pics:

Wonder how many 40-ish americans who grew up with Battle of the Planets still don't know it was the watered down version of Gatchaman and would be surprised to see the real versions of Mark and princess are actually siblings instead of two teens with the hots for each other, or that the young one isn't half bird (I never understood that one). I don't suppose anyone knows if when shooting this live version if they did lines in both Japanese and English or if we'll have to settle for overdubs like with the Godzilla films? Wouldn't it be funny if just to give us American's a shout out, they have 7-Zark-7 rolling around on base?
