It’s called Time. Honestly, when it comes to time travel, simplicity in the name is probably best.

While Fox is developing a time-travel comedy with Phil Lord and Chris Miller called In Time, NBC’s show is an action-adventure drama. It’s got a trio of heroes traveling through time battling a master criminal—there’s always a master criminal—who’s trying to change history. Which could have no potentially bad side effects, I’m sure.

Right now, there’s so much possibility. Is the master criminal traveling through time for revenge? To alter history so he becomes ruler of the world? Trying to save a dying relative, so he’s a sympathetic villain? So many options!

Time comes from Eric Kripke (Supernatural) and Shawn Ryan (The Shield), and we last heard about it in August when NBC won a bidding war for the script. They committed to production on a pilot then and it looks like we’ll actually get to see it.

Has time travel ever been hotter on TV? Right now we’ve got Outlander, 12 Monkeys, Legends of Tomorrow—and those are just shows with time travel as a central conceit. With Time and In Time, this could be the year time travel takes over.

A genre series on FOX? Can I guess it’s inevitable cancellation headline?
