When you think “Star Wars” and music, you think of John Williams. That’s a given. And Williams wrote the score for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is out in just over two weeks. But he didn’t write all the music in the movie.
Co-writer and director J.J. Abrams was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Monday and revealed that Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creative force behind the massive Broadway hit Hamilton, wrote a piece of music for the film. It was for a scene that Williams told Abrams he didn’t want to do.
Minor, minor spoilers follow.
Williams told Abrams he didn’t want to write music for their new version of a cantina scene so Abrams asked Miranda. Listen to him tell the story.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18.
