Illustration for article titled Which Brilliant Creator Could Have Saved a Terrible Idea?

NBC has hired the acclaimed, uber-talented Tarsem Singh to direct its grim, gritty, Game of Thrones-esque retelling of The Wizard of Oz miniseries, and I’ve gone from disinterested to eagerly awaiting it. The news got me thinking: Who else could have saved a terrible project and turned it into something great?

Obviously, just putting someone with talent on a bad idea helps, but let’s face it—Stanley Kubrick probably couldn’t have done anything with Transformers: Dark of the Moon, nor could Philip K. Dick somehow made 50 Shades of Grey worth reading. But just I can see Singh and his spectacular visual style and creativity turning very staid material into something great, there has to be someone who could have saved... well, just about anything.
