Nobody knows better than science fiction fans that a few minor changes to the timeline can alter everything. And science fiction istelf could have turned out totally differently if just a few things had changed. Which alternate versions of science fiction history would have resulted in a more interesting SF landscape today?

I would say that without the success of the original Star Trek in the 1960s, we may never have gotten Star Wars, which begat and revived Star Trek and so much other science fiction.

So I think we should add:

1) Gene Roddenbury's car broke down on his way to pitch Desilu Productions on Star Trek. He then decided to pitch a different television show to CBS and had a long career shepherding military and crime shows.
