Some genre romances belong to the ages. Others are dead weight. The other day, Futurama tried to turn us all into Fry-Leela shippers at last, with a mixed response. But what's the worst relationship that fans or creators have pushed for?

Science fiction and fantasy are genres that support epic stories, and so have become the last domain of epic romances. There are some incredible romances in genre, my favorite being Westley and Buttercup from The Princess Bride movie, Zoe and Wash from Firefly, and Lois and Clark from you know very well.

But what about the worst romances out there? I've made no secret about how, right up to the last episode, I hated Futurama's Leela and Fry. To be honest, I'd prefer to 'ship Leela and William Shatner, and Fry and his own grandmother. Now those couples had some chemistry. Since the last episode reconciled me to Freela, my next most hated 'ship is Willow and Tara from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The relationship started out soporifically slow until it took a sharp left turn into pure evil when Willow mind-controlled Tara and Tara still came back to her. I still hate it.

What relationship do you wish you could erase from genre fiction? Please include a picture or clip, so we can all marvel at the wrongness. And please mention the name of the series, for the unitiated!

I have two, and they make NO sense.

Even for Star Trek: Voyager, a show that doesn't know what to do with any of its lesser character, this was egregious. They had zero chemistry and had literally two episodes in the very last season to build it up, and half of it was with a hologram version of Chakotay. I swear, it was only there to throw Robert Bertran some bone after he complained about his decidedly lame character.

Then there's...

Where the hell did this come from? They had zero interaction before the Journey's End (which I already despised) and then they randomly get married? And Martha just completely gave up being a Doctor of her own and goes around being a shooty mercenary? WTF?
