This is like Dr. Dolittle goes Skynet. New York artist Marcelo Gallegos — whose leprechaun/kappa hybrid you may remember — has recently done a delightful series of illustrations depicting wind-up animals based on taxidermy references at the Field Museum of Chicago.

Check out such innocent fauna as kiwis and fawns bearing heavy weaponry and other less huggable creatures, like the piranha-frog and parrot-gun. You can pick up prints here if Gallegos' mechanical menagerie tickles your fancy.
