Tornado season is already off to a tense start this year and this new visualization from NASA shows just how strong the multi-state storm system was that sent tornadoes sweeping across the southern and central U.S. earlier this week.

Video: NASA/NOAA GOES Project:

The animation spools through the two day storm system that moved across Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi in 30 seconds, using a combination of satellite and infrared imagery.

But, as strong as the activity appears in the video, this visualization only takes you through the beginning of the storm system on Sunday and Monday. The activity, actually, continued the next day across the South with even more tornadoes, as you can see in this 3-D infrared satellite image of the storms from Tuesday.
