Watch the VFX of Doctor Who Season 9 Come Together

Doctor Who’s ninth season gave us some fantastic images: gorgeous vistas of alien cities, weird and creepy aliens, the whole shebang. Now you can get a little glimpse into how the show’s VFX artists brought it all together in this nifty compilation video.

Milk Visual Effects recently released this short reel highlighting its work on the show, and while some of it is more show than tell, you do get some lovely insight into the process of making the series’ FX sequences all come together. There’s great stuff in there, like the shot of Skaro above, or how the Citadel of the Time Lords came together for “Hell Bent,” right down to little things those freaky-looking hand-mines from the opening two-parter “The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar.”

It’s interesting stuff! You’ll have to head on over to Milk’s Vimeo page to see the video, but it’s definitely worth a look.

For comparison, here’s some of Series 1’s special effects. Thank goodness this show gained a massive following since 2005 and got the BBC to throw some money at it.
