We're pretty enraptured with Thailand's hyperactive superhero trailer for Red Eagle, a reboot of a Thai action franchise from the 1950s-1970s. This foreign flick has the tension of The Dark Knight with the hyper-kinetic violence of Kick-Ass.

Excellent neck-snapping X-Ray kill-shots, Red Eagle. Here's the official synopsis for the reboot:

A nuclear power plant is about to be commissioned upon the signing of corrupt and power hungry politicians. The citizens are in frenzy, as they oppose this plan but they cannot do a thing about it. And so, a hero was born, chasing down the criminals and the corrupt, killing of whatever threatens the city's well being. He leaves a card with his name simply as "THE RED EAGLE". However, the hero becomes the hunted, when the politicians send out their best defense, known as "THE BLACK DEMON".

DISCUSSION

The trailer looks good. I have a few comments that are entirely subjective.

1. I really don't like the "Romeo-must-die" x-ray vision action sequences.

2. I like the fact that the 'hero' actually used a rubber face mask to hide his identity in addition to the skimpy 'red eagle' half-mask. Apparently, Thais are harder to fool than New Yorkers/Metropolitans/Gothamians.

3. Thai is one of those languages I find impossible to find menacing or dark. It's too high-pitched and inflected.

4. The action looks good. I could stand this as opposed to the over-the-top Ong-Bak type.
