There have been Star Wars documentaries on almost everything. The history, the fans, the merchandise and more. But a new one, Elstree 1976, takes a different spin. It focuses on actors who played what they thought were going to be blink-and-you-miss-it characters. Then it became Star Wars.

Elstree 1976 is currently playing some festivals, but they just released a brand new trailer to get fans excited and aware of the film, which should become available sometime in 2016. Here it is.

It’s kind of crazy to imagine these actors put on masks for what seemed like some dumb little movie and those masks ended up being Greedo, Boba Fett, Darth Vader and others. Characters that have sparked debate, excitement and more for decades. Beyond that, those few days, such a small blip in an otherwise long life, have become defining, life-changing moments. It’s a fascinating story to tell in a documentary, and that trailer is just great.

DISCUSSION

The actors playing Bossk and Boba Fett were at a local con this year.

And it seems like they had fun. The panel with both of them was great and funny. A little bit of bickering like Statler and Waldorf.

Doing a bit part in a movie where you have no idea what is going on must have been weird. I can’t really imagine how big Star Wars was when Empire Strikes Back was shot, but it certainly wasn’t a dumb little movie at the time. The sequel to a hit like A New Hope (I guess most actors in that had no idea it would be so big).
