Early this morning, London was treated to an eerie scene, one familiar to anyone who has seen the 1964 Doctor Who serial The Dalek Invasion of Earth. It's all part of the upcoming TV drama about the history of Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space and Time. Warning: autoplay video within.

Mark Gatiss, one of the producers of the TV special, which will explore the early years of Doctor Who's production, submitted this video diary of today's filming, in which the team prepared to recreate on the show's most famous scenes:

I tried to watch Dr. Who when I was a wee lad. The first episode I watched, Daleks were chasing some people, and they took refuge up a flight of stairs, because these mechanical death machines CAN'T CLIMB STAIRS???

Even at that young age, I thought "that is the dumbest excuse to cover a limitation of the character designers I've ever seen on TV", and haven't watched an episode since.
