Hayao Miyazaki created movies like Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and My Neighbor Totoro. Now you can see his brilliant, early film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind free online - it's about a biotech war, millennia after an eco-catastrophe.

The film is based on a long-running manga series, also created by Miyazaki, and it concerns one of his lifelong preoccupations in his work: The battle between humans who want to live in harmony with nature, and humans who want to exploit it. Nausicaä is a young warrior from a small tribe that draws its technologies from nature without killing anything. But another group of humans wants to revive an old bioweapon that destroyed the planet, so Nausicaä has to marshal her forces - including giant insects - to save the world.

Roger Ebert points out this interesting commentary on the film from critic Michael Mirasol, which you may want to watch first:

And here's the full film. Prepare to be seriously blown away.
