Watch an enjoyably weird-ass tribute to 1970s rotoscoped fantasy cartoons

This is Mongrel & The Wrath of the Ape King, a three-minute rotoscoped send-up of Ralph Bashki's swords-and-sorcery flicks. (The production team at Gorgonaut also claims there's a dash of He-Man and Heavy Metal.) A dude fistfights with a lion! I had no idea I needed that today.

This video makes me want to put Jethro Tull's Aqualung, pop open a can of Schlitz, and think of my ex-girlfriend in Utica as the sun sets over the rubber mill on the other side of the canal. That, or grow a handlebar mustache.

Goddamn this is good.

The creator (I think it was him) posted links to his work-in-progress here every so often, and it always looked cool, but this is really something.

I'd Kickstarter the hell out of whatever they do next.
