We’ve told you before how great the Gorilla Grodd episode of The Flash TV show was, and the TV Academy agrees—it gave the episode a well-deserved nomination for an Outstanding Special Visual Effects Emmy. We have the exclusive VFX breakdown of how the show created the battle between speedster and an evil telepathic gorilla.

Given the budget of any TV show—let alone a TV show on The CW, which doesn’t quite have the money that bigger networks do—these computer graphics by Encore VFX, under the direction of Encore VFX Supervisor Armen Kevorkian, are pretty phenomenal. Even watching the show religiously as I id, I had no idea they had such a realistic CG model of Grant Gustin in the Flash uniform. Even here, when he’s clearly revealed to be VFX, my mind wants to believe he’s been digitally inserted somehow instead.

Man, I can’t wait for this show to come back.
