Vanilla Ice and the Original Movie Ninja Turtles Invaded the TMNT2 Premiere

You’d be hard pressed to come up with a more ’90s moment than the end of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze. Well, at least until this week, when attendees of the premiere for the latest Turtles movie sequel did a little time travel for a reunion of stars not seen since that seminal 1991 movie.

That’s right. Vanilla Ice awkwardly appeared in the back of The Theater at Madison Square Garden to get the crowd pumped for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, which opens June 3. He wasn’t alone. He brought back the Turtles of those first three movies, in their full prosthetic costumes, to perform the ultimate encore of “Ninja Rap.”

It’s an insanely, almost unfathomable cheesy moment with plenty of uncomfortable awkwardness. But isn’t that what these new Turtles are all about?

I’m surprised he accepted to do it - last I heard, the man was very intent , on distancing himself from his Vanilla Ice persona. Aggressively so, apparently.

I still prefer the original version in all of its cheesiness. The music on this one is too serious-sounding, with the big orchestra and all.
