Two-dimensional rivals must fight a three-dimensional battle in this paper-bending animated short

It's a bit disappointing that the two ink-based battlers in the animated short Paper War are fighting over a lady who functions as nothing more than a sex object, but the fight itself makes clever use of both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional nature of paper. Two men made of nothing but ink on paper must travel from sheet of paper to sheet of paper as they attempt to destroy one another—cutting, tearing, folding, moving, and unspooling the paper as they go along, eventually bursting into three dimensions.

Paper War is a graduation film presented by Su Zhiwu and Liao Xiangzhong at the Communication University of China. The animation was made with a combination of fixed cell animation and 3D effects.

Yes, very clever and fun to watch. Yes, disappointed in the gender stereotypes. It would have been more refreshing to see two women violently dueling over some heart throb guy, or lesbians or gays. But I'll cut these university students in China a little slack. Feminism might not be as advanced over there as it should be.
