Two Beauty and the Beast shows could be on TV at the same time. Yikes.

Honestly, this isn't terribly surprising. TV studios are particularly proficient at copying off each other, and with the currently popularity of Once Upon A Time, we're surprised there aren't more fairy tale TV shows. But two adapted from the same story? That's a lot.

Entertainment Weekly reports that ABC has ordered a pilot based on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale...only one week after CW ordered their own Beauty and the Beast pilot. Oof.

The CW version is based off the 1980s series starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman, whereas the ABC pilot is reported to be a "a fantastical re-imagining of the classic fairy tale set in a mythical, dangerous world wherein a beautiful and tough Princess discovers an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast." So totally different! The ABC version is also penned by Jonathan Steinberg (Jericho), so at least there's that.

Based on the networks, I think we all can assume that the CW version will be about horny teenagers with supernatural problems and the ABC pilot will pull from the Disney purse. Let's hope they both air simultaneously, just for hilarity's sake.

If only the B&B created by the Jericho writer was about how the Beast wanted vengeance on a cabal of gubbiment officials and military officers bent on making a military dictatorship as he mutated from the fallout of the nuclear war they caused. That would be interesting than this fairy tale/supernatural crap bent networks have been on.
