Transformers: Dark of the Moon scribe Ehren Kruger is writing a remake of David Cronenberg‘s creepy classic Videodrome. And the studios want a commercial director, Adam Berg, to lens the project. Yep, basically the worst thing ever.

Deadline is reporting that Kruger — who also worked on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and is currently working on a fourth movie in the series — will be writing the script. In Kruger's defense he also penned The Ring which was very good. Berg did that fairly popular commercial where a shootout is frozen in time. It's nice, we guess. Look, some things don't need to be remade. This is one of those things. But Universal is moving forward with it anyway.

I don't get the point of remaking this movie. Does Videodrome has some kind of wide appeal? Is there a lot of nostalgia to cash in on? I always thought it was some kind of cult thing that most people heard of but few people had seen or had cared to. Unless my tastes are even more mainstream than I thought. There goes my geek/hipster cred.
