Before it was the billion dollar hit it ended up being, Zootopia was a very different movie. Nick was the main character, not Judy, and there was a much darker take on the distinction between predator and prey. You see a great example of that in this deleted scene.

In the scene, Nick and Judy are escaping somewhere and end up in a “taming party.” More after you watch.

In the finished film, the divide between predators and prey is one of the central conflicts. However, the predators have just naturally evolved to be docile around the animals they’d usually kill. This scene shows that, in earlier iterations, there was a much more inhumane—and depressing—spin on that. Like the Nick to Judy change, getting away from this was very smart.
