
At this point, the debate over "strong female characters" has gotten a bit stale. Movies and TV keep serving up tough women, but they mostly still don't come across as actually "strong characters" in any meaningful sense. So this Twitter mini-rant by science fiction writer Ada Hoffman is incredibly useful.
Hoffman's tweets speak for themselves — they're a great lecture on not just representation of female characters, but good writing generally:

I have heard it called Trinity Syndrome.
Lets show how awesome a female character is in act 1 when it is generally inconsequential! Then she suddenly loses all competency to help much later.
