This low-budget space opera has everything we've been missing lately

Trailer FrenzyA special place to find the newest trailers for movies and TV shows you're craving.

There's no more space opera on television, and even when we get space movies they have a distinct lack of over-the-top insanity. There's not enough spaceship smackdowns and shit blowing up in vacuum. Luckily, there's this trailer.

We're stoked to give you an exclusive first look at the trailer for Scavengers, an ultra-low-budget space romp from director Travis Zariwny, coming to DVD on September 3. It's like the best episode of Star Trek: TNG or Andromeda, complete with tons of shit blowing up all over the place. Among other things, there's a gratifying amount of stuff like a guy saying "Brace for impact" in a weird sarcastic drawl, and the melting-face Southern-fried wannabe-Khan villain promising to hunt everybody down until he kills your corpse over and over. You have to love lines like, "I will blow up this entire sector of space just to get to you." Oh, and the voiceover explaining that there's an "intergalactic civil war."

You can't focus on the cheap CG when there's so much lovely goofiness going on.

Here's the official synopsis for Scavengers:

The starship Revelator’s crew of deep space scavengers have just discovered something…an alien artifact of mysterious, unimaginable power capable of threatening the balance of the known universe. Fiercely pursued by a rival crew of mercenary killers, who know what the life-altering device can do, the crew fights to protect not only the artifact’s missing pieces, but find themselves battling for their lives and the very future of the universe itself. Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints), Roark Critchlow (V) and Jeremy London (Party of Five) star in this adrenaline-fuelled sci-fi action-thriller.

Is the term intergalactic civil war even supposed to make sense?
