This Clip Shows Why People Are Comparing The Machine To Blade Runner

The British cyberpunk thriller The Machine has gotten pretty upbeat reviews, with Kim Newman calling it "brimming with ideas" and other reviewers comparing it to Blade Runner. And now here's an exclusive clip from the film, in which you can see a hint of those big ideas for yourself.

We showed you the trailer for The Machine a while back, and here's the official synopsis: "Set in the near-future Britain, two computer programmers fall in love as they create the first-ever piece of self-aware artificial intelligence, designed to help humanity. But things go terribly wrong when the British Government steals their breakthrough and teaches it to become a robotic weapon. The film is written and directed by new filmmaker Caradog W. James and stars Caity Lotz (Arrow) in a breakthrough role as "Ava" the machine alongside Toby Stephens (Black Sails) as the other computer programmer."

And here's a featurette about the making of the film:

The Machine will hit VOD on April 8 and theaters on April 25th in the United States.

I do enjoy a good philosophical discussion, and that scene has a great "what is alive" feel to it. If the movie can make me think about such things, it will be a winner. Yes, the discussion has been had in other movies, but I like new versions of it. Movies that make me think and pry open my mind (figuratively) are wonderful things.
Anyone who attempts to pry open my mind in a literal sense will most certainly regret such a thing. ;)
