This breathtaking short film is becoming a TV series

In Arrowhead: Signal, a mercenary named Kye crash-lands on a desert world, where survival will take everything he's got — and he's not alone. This cool-looking short film was intended to lead to a full-length feature, but instead it's spawned a brand new TV series, appearing on Australian TV.

According to CNET Australia, Melbourne film-maker Jesse O'Brien tried to raise money to make an Arrowhead film through the crowd-funding service Pozible, but failed to reach his fundraising goal. But now, instead, it's been picked up as an ongoing TV series, appearing on the Australian science fiction channel SF — and hopefully in the United States, too.

Here's the official plot description for Arrowhead, the TV series:

Arrowhead is a tale of survival set amongst the distant stars. Kye is a prisoner of war caught between two armies that he doesn't believe in. When offered an opportunity for freedom, Kye sets out on one last rescue mission, only to become stranded on a desert moon when his ship — the Arrowhead — crash lands. Kye has to learn to survive when we discovers a new life form that will challenge his very body and soul.
