These Maps Reveal How Cities Will Erode Over Time

A digital artist known as Chaotic Atmospheres has run city maps through World Terrain, a software system that simulates real-world geological events like erosion. The results are these evocative "erosion flow maps" that imagine what might happen to cities if they flowed into the environments around them.

You've completely mis-represented what the artist has done here. From the artists website:

I wanted to represent the influence of cities on their environment as a kind of invisible fluid that overflows from the city to its surrounding.

I retrieved city maps which I then used in World Machine as if they were 3D terrain. I've mixed the maps with procedural terrains in order to get the erosion flow I wanted.

These do not show "how cities will erode over time". At all. The artist just used the streetmaps as a starting point to create pieces of art. This has nothing to do with geology. At all.
