Last week, I explored two early plague-themed stories of the apocalypse in webcomic form. This week, we're once again going back in time to look at the very earliest tales of the end of the world, this time delving into tales in which the Earth reaches its expiration date. In this short comic, I trace these modern Western crumbling world stories from the earliest Christianity-based tales to the beginning of the dying Earth genre as we know it today.

What I like about these is that they tie a lot of incidental history into old themes in science fiction and fantasy. I remember Sagan mentioning the cyanogen gas scare of Halley's Comet in his Cosmos series years ago, nice to see some more details about that and Flammarion.

Keep it up Lauren!
