Ryan Reynolds has been in a bit of a slump lately, but color us greatly intrigued by his newest film, The Voices. Directed by Marjane Satrapi, the author of the acclaimed graphic novel Persepolis, The Voices stars Reynolds as a man who falls in love with his co-worker... and then accidentally kills her. At which point his pets start talking to him.

Of course, his dog Bosco is kind and benevolent, while his cat Mr. Whiskers is completely evil. It sounds like the recipe for a family-friendly kids movie with CG animals, except that business about the murder and the fact that Satrapi's directing it — we just can't imagine her wasting her time with anything fluffy or inconsequential. The Voices will premiere at the 2014 Sundance festival, so we'll know more then.
