The 1950s were a decade when science, space, and concepts of the future were celebrated within fashion, architecture, and design. Artist Mark Weaver takes advantage of the fantastic imagery and aesthetics produced during this era to inspire some breathtaking artwork.

The series found on Weaver's Flickr account is part of a worldwide project between graphic designers started by Olly Moss, the same guy who turned those famous video games into old Penguin book covers.

On January 1st, Moss issued a challenge to artists worldwide to "Make Something Cool Every Day." Hundreds of artists and designers heard the battle cry and got to work uploading their results to Flickr.

Weaver, who has worked for Wired and Paste magazine, uses vintage photographs to create his works. "People have called them 'refined collages' and 'retro futuristic collages,' which I think are pretty good descriptions," he told Tokion magazine. "I'm inspired by things like mid-century architecture, vintage space images, clean typography, old photographs — I'm a very nostalgic person, and I think that's reflected in my work."
