The plots of movies conveniently broken down into clever pictograms

Want to know the basic plot of a movie (or at least make fun of it) in five seconds or less? That's Matteo Civaschi of design firm H-57's specialty. What his pictograms lack in detail, they make up for in cheeky accuracy.

Along with fellow H-57er Gianmarco Milesi, Civaschi is the co-author of Life in Five Seconds, a book of pictograms outlining everything from the moon landing to Arnold Schwarzenegger's career path. His latest series, up at My Modern Met, pays tribute to and pokes fun at some of our favorite films.

The Alien diagram is nicely reminiscent of Ron Cobb's "Semiotic Standard," a set of industrial insignia that appears throughout the Nostromo. (It also shows up in somewhat modified form in the LV-426 colony in Aliens and aboard the eponymous spaceship in Prometheus.)
