The Original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Terrified of the New Ones

This drawing by Jeff Victor is appropriately titled "Rebooted." While you could see this as the specific problem with the upcoming film's designs, it works just as well as a general commentary on the "gritty," "dark," and "realistic" bent of most reboots.

I do get from the title this is supposed to be a refernce to the new movie. But without the title, this could also be a contrast between the kid-friendly TV version and the surprisingly dark and violent original comics. Especially during the first few story arcs, those comics were DARK with a bit of humor thrown in. They were ninja, specifically trained for assassination. The turtles had no qualms at all with killing bad guys. At least not until later issues.
