The New Flash Will Also Join The Harry Potter Universe

When Harry Potter defeated Lord Voldemort, we thought that was it. We were wrong. By now you probably know J.K. Rowling has penned a new Potter-universe film called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And the latest addition to the cast is the new big-screen version of The Flash, Ezra Miller.

Miller, best known for roles in We Need To Talk About Kevin and The Perks of Being A Wallflower, will join a cast that already includes Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne as the lead character of Newt Scamander and Inherent Vice stand-out Katherine Waterston. Specifically which character Miller will play is unclear (some publications say “Jacob,” others say “Kredan”) but Variety reports that Josh Gad and Michael Cera are up for an additional role of the main rival.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them takes place in the same wizarding world Harry Potter lives in—just several decades before. In fact the main character Scamander, described as a “magiczoologist,” travels the world studying magical creatures and wrote the text book that Harry, Ron and Hermione use when they attend Hogwarts. (The book that the film is named after.)

Though Miller has a ton of big and small movies coming up, his biggest is as the superfast hero The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That character will then appear as a member of the Justice League and in his own solo film in 2018.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is written by J.K. Rowling herself, will be directed by David Yates (Harry Potter 5-8). It’s scheduled for release November 18, 2016, with two sequels in the works. [Variety]
