Better call Moominpappa, because this is kind of intense. Artist Ingela Hallberg has been reimagining Tove Jansson’s beloved children’s books, with a series of artworks called The Moomin Project. And the results are pretty striking.

If you grew up reading the Moomintroll books, then these artworks will bring back a lot of memories. Hallberg tells io9 that this is an ongoing project, and “it will hopefully be a visual novel by the end of the year!” For now, you can check out some of her work here, and a ton more over at her Facebook page. “Sketch of the King and his Royal Court, partly inspired by descriptions from The Exploits of Moominpappa: ‘Everything became large and tremendous, and strange. There are so many possibilities that one’s neck bristles rise when one tries to imagine them all–and in the midst of them I am sitting.’”
