It’s been a long time since the Power Rangers team that started it all has graced TV screens, but with a movie reboot on the horizon and 22 seasons of Super Sentai antics under its belt across various incarnations, the original teenagers with attitude are making a welcome return to comics.

Boom Studios has announced that they’ve acquired the license to make a new ongoing series based on the original “Mighty Morphin” era of the Power Rangers, following the original five-some Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Trini, Billy, and Tommy as they battle against Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd. It’s designed to be faithful to the style of the original series to appeal to die-hard fans, so presumably we should be expecting something a little less serious and something a little more delightfully silly (and full of big explosions and giant robots). Yay!

Before the comic begins though, Boom will sell six one-shot, single-page comics spotlighting each of the Rangers at SDCC next week to promote the series. Each page will have a piece of art by Goñi Montes on one side (you can see them above), and a comic penned by Mairghread Scott with art by Daniel Bayliss on the other. Boom did not confirm whether Scott and Bayliss would continue on for the actual series, and other details about the comic are scant at the moment—not even a release date has been revealed.

Presumably we’ll get to hear about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers a bit more at San Diego Comic-Con next week.
