The very first footage of the live-action adaptation of the long-running manga and anime Lupin the Third is here, and damned if it doesn't seem like they've gotten the gentleman-thief and his samurai and gunman cohorts exactly right.
I've had my doubts about this movie, mainly because I'm a big Lupin fan and wasn't sure how the character would translate into live-action. But this short preview has set my mind at ease. I should have guessed that director Ryuhei Kitamura — who also directed Godzilla: Final Wars — would be the right guy for the job.
The movie will premiere in Japan on August 30th, and then probably spend an inordinately long time getting an American release.
