Welcome to the monthly meeting of the io9 Book Club. In February, we read Ernest Cline's novel Ready Player One. Jump into comments to get started talking about it!

For those unfamiliar with the io9 book club, here's how it works: You read the book. We create a special book club post on io9 when the meeting is in session. That would be the post you're reading right now. Then everybody talks about the book in comments for a few days, starting right now.

Cline will be stopping by to talk to you about his book on Friday, March 23. I'll put up a separate post calling for questions on Thursday, so look for that if you want to ask him something!

So, what did you think of the book?

Want to get a head start on our next book? We're going to do something a little unorthodox for April. You see, Naomi Novik's latest novel in the Temeraire series, Crucible of Gold, just came out. But it wouldn't really be fair to ask everybody to read the 7th novel in a series, no matter how great the series is and how stand-aloney the book might be. So we're going to read the first novel in the series, His Majesty's Dragon. We'll meet April 24th to discuss His Majesty's Dragon — and if you feel moved to read the rest of the series, too, I won't stop you!

Annalee Newitz

This was one of my favorite novels of 2011. I think what I loved most about it was that just when you think you're settling in for a fun but virtual adventure, the novel takes this drastic turn and suddenly we're in the real world of indentured servitude and murder and bad craziness.
