But this time it's not DC. Instead, comic book TV show wonder-producer Greg Berlanti is taking the long-running Archie comic to the Fox network, where it will be "a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, exploring the surreality of small-town life" titled Riverdale.

That quote comes from Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also says Riverdale will examine "the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome façade."

It's weird this got announced right after I praised the Afterlife with Archie comic, but the point stands — Archie Comics have doing some really weird, really cool things recently, including Afterlife with Archie, the new straight-up horror reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Archie Meets Predator, and a lot more. A lot of people have this idea of Archie as a comic completely stuck in the '50s, but that's not true, at least not anymore — and I'm willing to bet Riverdale will prove it.
