Along with a bunch of other release dates, Fox has officially given us a release date for the Channing Tatum-starring Gambit movie: October 7, 2016. Presumably that means that they will start shooting some time soon, probably later this year.

We know a very little about the film, other than Channing Tatum's involvement and that the script will be written by Joshua Zetumern (2014's RoboCop) and based on a Chris Claremont treatment. The question of whether or not we'll see Tatum in X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016 seemed to be answered by Tatum, who told MTV in June that they were hoping to do the standalone movie first, before seeing him in the X-Men movies. I'm not entirely sure that rules out some kind of teasing of Gambit in Apocalypse, which will be released five months before Gambit.

Of course, Apocalypse is also going to be set in the '80s, and I think we'll be getting a more contemporary Gambit film, so who knows, really?

At the same time, Fox announced that the next Planet of the Apes movie has had its release date pushed back a year to July 14, 2017, which has also moved the already-planned Fantastic Four sequel forward from that date to June 2, 2017.

As for Gambit, let's close with a very typical confirmation from Tatum, who tweeted:

I always liked the character...but I'm still unsure on this film :/
