The Entire Process Of Creating A Comics Panel, Shown In One GIF

Just how do you go from an idea in your head to a fully-realized comics panel? This GIF takes us through the whole process — from storyboards right up to a full-color finished product.

Commenter JohnGreenArt shared this GIF with us in a recent io9 show-and-tell thread. Using a panel from the graphic novel he illustrates along with writer Dave Roman, TeenBoat (just like it sounds like: “combine the angst of being a teen with the thrill of being a boat!”), it shows the different steps in the process, including thumbnail sketches, inking, the different coloration protocols, and adding dialogue.

Even more importantly, though, it shows the progression of each step, and just how each one stacks on each other.

That is three panels!

Okey, my turn! How Mirjam created the main character in our comic book.+draft stuff. Both images are just something that was scrolling by in the background during a panel that we were part of:

Image one is the first sketch. The second is the result after feedback and number four is the first color test. Number three is well, science. :>

This image is from the same panel and is about how stuff change from draft to draft.
