The film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has been shooting for a while now, but most of that was happening in South Africa. This week, the film moved to New York City, and the increase of prying eyes caught a glimpse of Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flagg, the Man in Black.

I’m a terrible person and have not read the books, so I’ll bow to Coming Soon when they say “perhaps the scene being filmed depicts the events in the book series that lead to Jake Chambers (played by Tom Taylor) joining Roland in Mid-World after being removed from our own reality.” What do you think? Why would Flagg be in New York?

That all-black outfit, black hair, no undershirt—McConaughey looks pretty scary. A worthy adversary for rhe Gunslinger, played by Idris Elba. Here’s an image of both thanks, to Scott Wampler of Birth Movies Death.

I’m not saying this is a bad move, I think that switching the character around has all sorts of interesting possibilities, especially with the ending as is. I just find it funny that the comparative freak out is so minimal.
