Are you ready for another sexy vampire soap opera? Just a couple years after its Dracula show crashed and burned, NBC is ready to try again. Greg Berlanti, producer of The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl will make a pilot called Brides, which follows three female vampires as they live in modern New York City.
These aren’t just any vampires though. They’re the Brides of Dracula, still alive after not being killed by Van Helsing. Deadline describes the show as “a sexy reimagining of Dracula as a family drama with a trio of strong, diverse female leads, a show about empowered women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their non-traditional family.”
Doesn’t that sound like Sex and the City meets True Blood? Kind of. And that might sound somewhat bonkers—but not only is Berlanti producing, but Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing. The former Marvel Comics writer is also a successful playwright, who’s worked on Glee, Big Love, Looking and wrote the horror movie remakes Carrie and The Town that Dreaded Sundown. So this project has a decent pedigree.
Remember though, NBC has only committed to making a pilot of Brides, so there’s no guarantee we’ll ever get to see it. You have to think, though, with the vampire hook, the track record of the show’s creators, and its unique spin on the mythos, Brides sounds like a slam dunk. Then again, the idea is also so borderline campy it could end up being awful. Which could just make it more fun to watch, after all..
