It is a good day to be English literature nerds! Because the BBC is currently filming Dickensian, a 20-episode TV series where all of Charles Dickens’ characters essentially live together in Victorian London, including Oliver Twist, Fagin, Ebeneezer Scrooge, Miss Havisham from Great Expectations, and more.

Guys. Guys. It’s the Charles Dickens Cinematic Universe. THE DICKENS-VERSE! The show just started filming this week, so details are scarce. But I can assure you as an English major who finds Dickens’ works genuinely hilarious I will keep you 100% up-to-date with every detail on the series I encounter.

And with that I am now shipping Scrooge and Miss Havisham.

Actually... I joke, but it wouldn’t be too difficult to jigger their respective backstories so that Scrooge is the one who left Miss Havisham at the altar. Heck, there’s no reason Miss Havisham’s first name couldn’t be Belle. Maybe... maybe to keep some of the tragic aspect of his story, where his fiancee left him due to his increasing miserliness, maybe he missed the wedding because he was wrapped up in some important business deal (not that he forgot, perhaps he actually chose to stay at the deal rather than go to the wedding), and when he showed up late — too late — she, still in the wedding dress, flew into a rage and kicked him to the curb.

All right, it’s headcanon now. If it’s not this way in the actual show I will be very disappointed.
