Two hundred rare objects will trace 250 years of Gothic literature, in the British Library's forthcoming exhibition, Terror and Wonder. Dave McKean has designed this image to promote the event, inspired by Frankenstein, Dracula and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
"Dave's artwork brilliantly captures the drama and intensity of the Gothic imagination," says Greg Buzwell, co-curator of the exhibition, "Ever since the publication of Horace Walpole's The Castle of Otranto in 1764, Gothic themes and ideas have provided a rich source of inspiration for writers, filmmakers, artists, musicians and fashion designers; adding color, wonder and a dash of delicious fear to our lives."
McKean's artwork will appear on the exhibition poster across London and on a 20-foot-long banner hanging in the entrance hall.
The exhibition opens on October 3 and runs until January 20, 2015. Tickets are already available to book online.
