It’s almost mandatory that a superteam has a lavish base of operations. Avengers Tower. The Baxter Building. The X-Mansion! But the recently formed All-New, All-Different Avengers don’t really have the cash to spare on a swanky base. Say good bye to Avengers Tower, and say hello to... Avengers Condemned Airfield?
The new digs come from the pages of the upcoming All-New, All-Different Avengers #4, by Mark Waid and Mahmud A. Asrar, in a preview released via Comic Vine. Let’s just say we’ve drifted quite far from the days of a glittering skyscraper towering over the Manhattan skyline. That got sold off by a cash-strapped Tony Stark at the beginning of the series, when it became clear that wasn’t an Avengers team who needed it at the moment.
With Peter Parker buying up the other cool tower in Marvel’s New York, and no one else in the team really having the funding or backing to set up a new Avengers Tower, the team has been forced to relocate to New Jersey (I’m sure Jersey native Kamala Khan is very excited at the prospect), and to an old Stark Industries Hanger. It’s basically like working out of Tony’s shed. Well, a hangar would be the equivalent of a shed to man like Tony Stark, right?
At least Jarvis is still hanging around. I’m sure he’ll find a way to spruce the place up and make it fit for Earth’s mightiest heroes. As confusing as the situation around what happened to the Avengers in the “All-New, All-Different” Marvel universe is, it’s interesting to see the team have to adapt to a situation where, despite the legacy of the Avengers name, they’re not really the best-equipped or even most experienced superhero team out there at the moment. Can they still deal with all that, working out of an empty hangar in New Jersey? Presumably—because otherwise it’d make for a terrible Avengers comic. But it’ll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
All-New All Different Avengers #4 hits shelves next week, on January 27th.
