The annual gathering at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit has traditionally been a fashion disaster, with participants donning everything from ill-fitting muumuus to psychedelic shirts. So, this year's ensemble seemed tasteful by comparison—until people noticed the resemblance to Star Trek: TNG uniforms.

A traditional Chinese silk shirt in dark purple and blue, what could be wrong with that? Nothing, until you add a small, gold-colored pin—and suddenly, it looks like a cast reunion. #APECStarTrek is now trending on Twitter, featuring photoshopped images such as the one above.

Fox News, by contrast, compared the outfits to Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers films. Who would have thought that they'd immediately have a more sinister interpretation?
