That Death Note movie sure was something, wasn’t it? Whether you loved it or hated it, you have to admit that the manga it’s based on is a different beast entirely. A beast you can soon own in one comically large package.

This omnibus edition of the Death Note manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata clocks in at a whopping 2,400 pages, which includes all twelve volumes of the original plus a new epilogue chapter never before released in English. We covered the original Japanese version of this monstrosity last year, and now the intrepid eyes at have spotted the English version for pre-order on Amazon, via Viz Media.

The omnibus will be available on September 5th for $35.99. The original Japanese version, all told, clocked in at 25 pounds. If this one measures up, that comes out to roughly $1.50 per pound of book. Now that’s what I call value.

Is it better than the anime? Because I think the series got increasingly dumb after a promising beginning and a neat concept.
