Maps are more than just instructions on how to get someplace, they're also historical snapshots of what was going on when they were drawn — and they're often very, very weird.

Maybe it's the story of how a place got its name, maybe it's an explanation for why a seemingly senseless boundary ended up the way it did, or maybe it's something else entirely.
