The newest movie from Studio Ghibli is not the newest movie from famed director Hayao Miyazaki. The Tale of Princess Kaguya is actually the first film by Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata in 14 years. His films are usually overshadowed by Miyazaki's work... but this trailer reveals this probably won't be a problem for Kaguya.
Check out the first gorgeous trailer for Princess Kaguya above, which brings a hand-drawn and classical feel not just to the characters but the environment, which is animated with everything else. The movie also seems to forego the classic Ghibli character design style completely, and the result is something wholly original.
It's based on the Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, in which the Princess Kaguya is found as a baby in a glowing bamboo stalk. It's a favorite for anime adaptations, but I'm quite sure none of them have ever looked like this.
