Jodi Harvey-Brown has a somewhat different take on the notion of pop-up books. She uses novels, biographies, and books of short stories as both the inspiration and materials for her open book paper sculptures, reworking the pages to illustrate characters, ships, and scenes from the tales. The end results are lovely, though those who are squeamish about book mutilation should look away.

Though the open book pieces are especially grand as they give the impression that the characters could no longer be contained within their pages (the Millennium Falcon sculpture, for the record, comes from Heir to the Empire, Harvey-Brown does all sorts of book art, including ornaments, clocks, and a pair of paper slippers made from The Wizard of Oz. She has several sculptures as well as commission information available on Etsy.

Had nobody ever heard of Claude Lafortune? He can quite literally do these kinds of things behind his back, and had done so several times on TV. All anybody in their mid twenties and up from Quebec, they are pretty much guaranteed to have seen one of his shows.
